Peter Cove S., ‘S,dayes‘ (Pender Island). This was my first day in the water for some time and winter temperatures have set in for sure! It would be stretching it to say it was 8° C. Visibility wasn’t as good as I’d expected – a little cloudy horizontally, but the skies were blue and the presence of sun after days of gloom and grey was certainly welcomed. I counted seven species of sea slugs, but the real treat was the Winged Sea Slug, (Gastropteron pacificum). These are extremely tiny, bubbleshell sea slugs and this one was no bigger than 12 mm or 1/2 inch. When they swim they look like a cross between a pink angel and a struggling bat . Will attach a link to a video of it swimming when I get a chance. Other treats? Two Horned Nanaimo Dorids riding the rails of the feather duster worms . . . and so many Spotted Leopard Dorids I stopped counting.
