The water has been cold — between 6 & 8° C (43 to 47° F) but the purchase of a Yazbek 7.5 mm open cell wetsuit has made a huge difference to my ability to stay in winter waters. Everyone always speaks of the beautiful clarity of the British Columbia ocean in the winter, but I have yet to see this. Strong winds and fresh water run-off have created murky waters and low visibility. The positive? When fresh water meets salt, it creates a turbulent, refractory effect and lightens the usual deep emerald waters to a lovely turquoise.. These photos were taken in four different areas off of S,dayes’ — Welcome Bay, Boat Nook, Peter Cove S., and McKinnon Road Beach.
