Nudibranchs of Hawaii Main Page
This is an fairly common nudibranch for shallow free divers and snorkelers to see — IF they are snorkelling in areas of sponge covered rubble — especially grey sponge, their prey. They can, in fact, be quite abundant at certain times and in certain areas. All of these animals were found in North Kihei/Ma’alaea Bay or Makena Landing, Maui. They have various common names and the most popular world-wide seems to be the “Caramel Nudibranch” for obvious reasons. Sea Slugs of Hawaii provides more information and photos, including a very light version (almost white).
