Cydippida Sp.

                                                                                                                                                                            Return to Ctenophores

This is an undescribed species that has very obvious pinkish tentacles with very long sticky branches. It is more oval in shape than the Pacific Sea Gooseberry (Pleurobrachia bachei) and might at first be mistaken for the Eplokamis dunlopae.  According to Cnidarian/ctenophore expert, Claudia Mills these ctenophores are usually found at depths that are normally only accessible by ROV’s.  However, they have been known to make their presence more obvious in the upper subtidal and intertidal zone after double high tides.
