Sea Slugs of Maui: Nudibranchs, Side-gilled Slugs, Sapsuckers, Bubbleshells, Etc.

Welcome to the Sea Slugs of Maui Site — a site originally set up to help a group of fellow snorkelers, reef cleaners, hawksbill searchers, researchers and turtle disentanglers identify the nudibranchs we were finding as we dove to pick up weights and line and various bits of trash along the ocean floor.  Our interest and fascination with sea slugs has grown to the point where we almost discuss mollusks as much as turtles.   Finding so many sea slugs in the shallows off of South Maui has brought a lot of joy and continues to peak our curiosity.   Karolle Wall, who has organized this site, and continues to work on it almost daily, has been fascinated with Sea Slugs of the Salish Sea for over 20 years and this represents her continued desire to document what lies within sight of the advanced snorkeler or shallow free diver.  While most of the photos are Karolle’s, many have been taken by our “turtle team” –folks who are involved in Hawaiian Hawksbill research and documentation, ridding the world of marine plastics and debris, through their association with Sharkastics, and contributing to marine research and preservation through the Hawaiian Association for Marine Education and Research, HAMER .  Hopefully this site will encourage others to explore what lies in the shallows, often right before our eyes.  For more images and detailed descriptions, links, and stories please click on the images below or return to main menu and use the drop-down menus.
