This tiny white, lightly speckled nudibranch was photographed in the Sugar Beach area of Maui in a few feet of water on a nearshore shelf that forms a tide pool at lowest tides. Not sure, but it could be a juvenile as it was no bigger than 12 mm. At first glance it appears to be a solid white, but looks more transparent close up. Papillae are quite raised and almost conical. — a pepper-like speckling in between and on some of the papillae. This was a “new to me” find and it turned out to be a species that has not been recorded on Hawaii (or perhaps anywhere) John Hoover has devoted a page to the images I’ve provided along with my initial description. Cory Pittman adds some interesting comments regarding its size and a somewhat similar flatworm found in the Philippines. If you’re interested, I’ve attached a video.
